Summer Chamber Music Keowee Chamber Music Festival, directed by flutist Kate Steinbeck, presents its sixth season June 13-25, 2006. Concerts take place in Asheville, Greenville and on the NC/SC border at scenic Pretty Place Chapel near Caesar’s Head and include free performances for children and public open rehearsals. Featured musicians are Kate Steinbeck, flute; Corine Brouwer, violin; Amy Brucksch, guitar; Elizabeth Austin, cello; Dewitt Tipton, piano; and guest artist cellist Tim Holley of Durham. Keowee seeks to bring new audiences to chamber music through innovative programming and informal, intimate performances. New for 2006: Acoustic Dessert, a late evening concert in the Red Square Gallery on Rankin Avenue in downtown Asheville on Tuesday, June 20, at 9:30 PM. This season Keowee will perform a broad spectrum of music, from works by Gian Carlo Menotti to those of Paganini, Mozart, and Haydn, and including works by jazz cellist Mark Summer of Turtle Island String Quartet, Pulitzer prizewinner Aaron Jay Kernis, African-American composer Undine Smith Moore, and American flutist Gary Schocker.
