Archives HERSHEY'S TRACK AND FIELD MEET MAY 20 AT ASHEVILLE HIGH Approximately 200 boys and girls from Western North Carolina, ages 9 to 14, will compete at the Hershey's Track and Field Youth Program on Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Asheville High School. This program is free to all participants. Pre-registration has begun and is preferred; participants can register the day of the meet from 9:00am to 9:45am. The meet begins at 10:00am. This will mark the 29th year of the local program hosted by Asheville Parks and Recreation. Events will include the 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter dash, 1600 meter run, 4x100 meter relay, standing long jump and softball throw. Winners in the Asheville meet will advance to the North Carolina state meet in Raleigh on Friday, June 30. State meet winners will be eligible for selection to a Regional Team that will travel to Hershey, Pennsylvania to compete in the North American Finals on Saturday, August 5. The Hershey's Youth Program has involved millions of youngsters from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the ten provinces and three territories of Canada. The Hershey Track and Field Youth Program is sponsored by the National Recreation and Parks Association, the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, Athletics Canada and the Hershey's Foods Corporation.
