Constance Humphries at AAAC
“MUTE: What Isn’t Said” Opens May 3; Reception May 5 Mixed Media Paintings by Constance Humphries at AAAC Board Room Gallery A reception for Asheville artist Constance Humphries will be held Friday, May 5, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Asheville Area Arts Council. Humphries will display her mixed media paintings in the Boardroom from May 3 through May 25. The public is invited to meet the artist and learn more about her new body of work. Refreshments will be served. “These mixed media works on canvas are intuitive ‘portraits’ of children based on memories of faces/expressions I have seen, dreamed, known or drawn,” states Humphries. “I am working with concepts of confrontation, vulnerability, constraint, confusion and insignificance. In these images, I am seeking expression of a physical, emotional, or spiritual characteristic that evokes a universal recognition of the human experience.” Educated at UNCA and Western Carolina University, Humphries recently had work selected for the Women Artists of Western North Carolina '06 Exhibition! at Turchin Center for the Visual Arts in Boone and she won the Juror’s Choice Award in the 2005 Chapel Hill Women's Center 21st Annual Art Exhibit.
