Katrina Displaced Students to Arrive

UNC Asheville to Admit College Students Displaced by Hurricane Katrina

In response to the mounting and staggering losses experienced by colleges throughout the Gulf Coast, UNC Asheville will offer late admissions opportunities for college students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. One displaced student has already been admitted.

“UNC Asheville will open its doors to students who otherwise would be unable to continue their fall term studies due to the impact of Hurricane Katrina,” said UNC Asheville Provost Mark Padilla. “The University will admit these students under the degree-seeking category, thus allowing them to continue receiving federal financial aid.”

Yesterday, UNC President Molly Corbett Broad announced that the 16 campuses of the University of North Carolina are committed to assisting students enrolled at universities that have been forced to close as a result of Hurricane Katrina. All campuses will accommodate impacted students on a space-available basis, with preference given to students who are residents of North Carolina.

For more information about enrollment, call UNC Asheville’s Admissions Office at 828/251-6481 or toll-free at 800/531-9842.
