Archives Malaprop's Bookstore/Café Sunday, October 2, 2005, at 2pm: Rev. Louisa Dyer will conduct a salon, "Opening to Divinity Within," based on her new book. Themes of Illumination is a collection of 52 weeks' worth of suggestions for cultivating joy. It is an "interfaith workbook offering simple, inspirational guidance for greater self-love and a vital reconnection with God. Nonreligious, yet deeply spiritual - a joyous journey home to Divinity within!" Thursday, October 6 at 6:30pm: An evening of poetry and song with The Traveling Bonfires. Friday, October 7 at 7pm: Join Byron Belitsos, author of One World Democracy and long-time activist for world federalism, for a lively discussion of the U.N. and global politics. Byron is also knowledgeable in the field of psycho-spirituality, the work of Ken Wilber and the Urantia book. Saturday, October 8 at 6:15pm: Wine and cheese reception for poet Andrea Selch. Ms. Selch teaches creative writing at Duke. At 7pm: Poetry performance with Ms. Selch. Sunday, October 9 at 2pm: Kathy B. Steele studied geology and worked as a cartographer before writing her novel Rocks that Float. Kathy hails from the Carolinas and populates her story with rich voices of the South. Tuesday, October 11 at 7pm: Malaprop's Bookclub with host Mary Park Ford will discuss "All the King's Men" by Robert Penn Warren. Wednesday, October 12 at 7pm: T.A. Barron is a young adult fantasy novelist whose work is loved both by children and adults. Some of these adults include Isabel Allende, Jane Goodall, Madeline L'Engle and many of us at Malaprop's. Thursday, October 13 at 7pm: Poets, professors, folksingers and francophiles, pick up your lutes and lyres, pens and pads, and head to Malaprop's to meet Robert Kehew. Robert is the man behind Lark in the Morning, a bilingual anthology of poetry of the French troubadours, lyric poets or poet-musicians of the Middle Ages. Robert will read in both the archaic French and in English. (Translations are by Ezra Pound, W.D. Snodgrass, and Robert Kehew.) Friday, October 14 at 8:15pm: Music in the Café with flutist Kate Steinbeck and guitarist Amy Bracksch. Saturday, October 15 at 8:15pm: Music in the Café with Barry Weber. Sunday, October 16 from 1-3pm: Local author Rachelle Rogers will sign copies of her novel, A Love Apart. Written in the style of magical realism this story questions the roots of romantic love. Tuesday, October 18 at 7pm: Young Adult Bookclub with Host Caroline Green meets in the Café. New members are welcome! Thursday, October 20 at 7pm: Chef Bill Smith of Chapel Hill's Crook's Corner will answer your culinary questions and treat you to a taste of his Baked Sweet Potato Soup. His new cookbook is Seasoned in the South. Friday, October 21 at 7pm: Ann Palmer will read from and sign copies of her latest work, "Realizing the College Dream with Autism or Asperger Syndrome: A Parent's Guide to Student Success." Monday, October 24 at 7pm: Malaprop's Sci-Fi Bookclub meets in the Café with host Rich Rennicks. New members are welcome! Thursday, October 27 at 6:30pm: Blind Date With Poetry with host Matt Moon. This month's featured poet is Ted Pope. Friday, October 28 at 7pm: Lady Passion and Diuvei will demonstrate spells from their new comprehensive Goodly Spellbook. Learn the "Secret Language of Witches" this Halloween weekend! Feel free to come in costume (as always). Sunday, October 30 at 2pm: Patrick Bizarro will read from his collection of poems, Every Insomniac Has a Story to Tell. Al Maginnes will read from his collection, entitled, Film History.
