This past week's 2nd Annual "Laugh Your Asheville Off" festival featured 21 standup comedians and they, by all accounts, nailed it. 

Promoters of the event that included workshops for aspiring comics told DowntownAsheville.com that they are thrilled with the response from a town that loves to read, actually thinks, speaks up when necessary and -- when given the chance --laughs at what needs laughing at. Half of the funny men and funny women in this year's laugh fest are based in Asheville.

TRIVIA QUESTION: How many professional comedians does it take to keep Americans laughing? The common wisdom number is 10,000 nationwide, according to Johnny Millwater, the festival's "clean-up" headliner. This year's big-name headliner was Alonzo Bodden. Second Annual Laugh Fest

Laugh Your Asheville Off 2008
The Laugh Your Asheville Off comedy festival, said to be the largest festival of its kind in the Southeast, returns to downtown Asheville July 17, 18 and 19, 2008, for its second year. It is expanding last year’s two nights of stand-up into a three-day festival.


Alonzo Bodden
The 2008 festival is proudly presenting NBC’s Last Comic Standing winner Alonzo Bodden and over a dozen other touring comedians.

Something for Kids of All Ages
The festival includes a workshop for aspiring comics. There will also be a comedy and magic show for kids (and, okay, it's for adults, too).

Each of the three nights of performances will present new acts, making it the largest stand-up comedy festival in the southeast.

Sketchy Females and More
The Festival kicks off on Thursday July 17 with Lylas, Asheville's first all female sketch comedy troupe. LYLAS will open the stage for an evening of stand-up comedy. The audience can count on some of the funniest comics on the east coast. Highlighted is Washington, DC’s refreshingly hysterical Mike Storck.
