New Buncombe Chair and Commissioners Installed
*TWO NEW COUNTY COMMISSIONERS INSTALLED YESTERDAY lead by new chairman David Gannt | David Gantt, previously a commissioner, was installed on Dec. 1, 2008, as the new Buncombe County chairman, along with newly elected commissioners Holly Jones and K. Ray Bailey, who will join re-elected commissioners Bill Stanley, who is serving his sixth term, and Carol Peterson, who is serving her second term. On Nov. 4, 2008, Gantt, a local lawyer, defeated former chairman Nathan Ramsey, a Fairview dairyman. Jones, executive director of the YWCA, gave up her post today as Asheville city council member to become a Buncombe County commissioner. Holiday Shoppers Must Avoid Parking in Fire Lanes
*FIRE MARSHAL WARNS VIOLATORS of Increased Enforcement | If someone stays with a vehicle being loaded, they are not in violation of the city ordinance, said Asheville Fire and Rescue Department officials. However, shoppers will be subject to a fine if they illegally park their vehicles in travel lanes of parking lots, in front of fire hydrants and in fire lanes. Such violations present emergency vehicles and personnel with access problems. Local deputy fire marshals request that shoppers properly park their cars, load their vehicles in loading zones, and have someone stay with the vehicle while loading.
