DETAILS: Erin Scholze writes to DowntownAsheville.com about Donna and the Buffalo's two evenings of performances at the Orange Peel, as follows:

DEC. 30
On Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, Donna will host the New Years Asheville Revue from 9-10 p.m. before their full set. This will be a taste of featured Asheville performers. This includes Mad Tea Party; Old Time String Music with Trevor Stuart, Cary Fridley, Meredith McIntosh, John Herrmann, and Ira Bernstein's Traditional Appalachian Clogging; Woody Wood; Josh Phillips Trio; Jonathan Scales Fourchestra and a burlesque act.

WNCW's Martin Anderson will be the MC for the evening.

This Revue came about because the Donna the Buffalo's strong connection to Asheville. Nevins and Puryear have taken part in many old time circles around here for years, and many members, former and current, also have ties in Asheville. Ten songs from their current CD, "Silverlined," were also recorded at Asheville's Echo Mountain Studio.

DEC. 31, NEW YEAR'S EVE
On Wednesday, Dec 31, 2008, New Year's Eve, The Believers will open up the evening for Donna the Buffalo. The Believers' Craig Aspen and Cyd Frazzini are based out of Tennessee and just completed the West Coast tour as Donna the Buffalo's opening act, often sharing the stage for a song or two each show as well. The Believers recently released a new album, "Lucky You." This new disc from the Believers effortlessly blends 1970?s pop hooks & harmonies (ala Fleetwood Mac) while keeping one foot firmly planted in American roots music (ala Gram & Emmylou).

MORE ABOUT DONNA
Donna the Buffalo is 20 years young this year and as energized as ever. Their seventh record, "Silverlined," builds on Donna the Buffalo's signature sound -- a bedrock of traditional mountain music infused with elements of Cajun, rock, folk, reggae and country. Throughout Silverlined, these undulating rhythms carry the original lyrics, and alternating vocals, of founding members Tara Nevins and Jeb Puryear along a powerful, mesmerizing current. The dawn of Donna the Buffalo began in upstate New York in the 80s when Nevins and Puryear were both fervently playing and absorbing old-time Appalachian music but in separate string bands.
