Scrutiny Hooligans: 'Defiant Coleman Moves Ahead on Parkside'
(or Why Gordon Smith Should Have Been Chosen as City Council Member)

There were a lot of good applicants for the vacant City Council position -- and congratulations to the newly appointed Kelly Miller. However, Scrutiny Hooligan's founder Gordon Smith would have rounded out the perspective of city council better with his grassroots, common sense, "people first" approach.  (And kudos to Brownie Newman, who was the only council member to put Smith on his initial short list.) 

Here's why Gordon Smith would have made the better choice. He has proven over the years that he cares about people and Asheville. He tells it like it is, publicly, without mincing words, yet without undo rancor. Smith's most shining example of shouldering the people's interests first was (and is) his ahead-of-the-crowd, outstanding, continuing coverage of the proposed Parkside high-rise condominiums, Asheville's greatest public-private partnership of scandal.
