WNC Faces Massive Rate Hike, Tougher Building Codes, Proposed National Center for Sustainability Asheville author and journalist Michael Hopping files this Asheville Area Energy Report on Sept. 12, 2008 In his copyrighted article, Michael Hopping reports that Progress Energy has requested utility commission approval for a massive rate hike. The company wants to phase in the increase over three years. Residential customers would see an initial bump of 11.2%. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for September 16.
