Blue Ridge Parkway: USE EXTREME CAUTION
Trump Shutdown creates confusion about whether some or all of the entire Blue Ridge Parkway is open or closed | News media and government reports about whether or not the Blue Ridge Parkway is open or closed or partially open are confusing at best. For example, as of Jan. 3, 2019 and updated on Jan. 4, WCAV, NBC TV12 of Richmond, Virginia, reported: "Blue Ridge Parkway closed indefinitely due to shutdown," via Nbc12.com: More> | RELATED: However, the "Official Site of the Blue Ridge Parkway" is not specific about closures. Instead, the website simply provides a short advisory at the top of its homepage on Jan. 4, 2018, as follows: "BRP (Blue Ridge Parkway) Alert: If visiting the Parkway during the government shutdown, use extreme caution. Rangers, emergency services, bathrooms & trash collection are unavailable. Please pack out your trash, and dial 911 in case of emergency. See the Realtime Road Closure Map for road status," via Blueridgeparkway.org: More> | RELATED: However, when you click on the link to the Parkway's "real-time closures," it is redirected online to the National Park Service website map, which may or may not be accurate on a real-time basis given there are apparently no official government workers on the parkway. Currently, the NPS.gov website shows partial areas of the parkway that fall into one of three categories: open, closed, and on an advisory status, as of Jan. 4, 2019, via NPS.gov/maps: More> | RELATED: For a nationwide view of "What is and isn't affected by the government shutdown," The New York Times, on Jan. 2, 2019, does their best to sort the mess out, via Nytimes.com: More>

Q: During the just-in-time-for-Christmas Trump government shutdown... will Social Security payments be made? Will military and defense personnel receive their paychecks? And what about issuance of new passports? A: Yes. Depends. Maybe.
